Astronomy and Science
    APPLIED ENVIRONMENTAL
EVERYONE (375*)
This nontechnical class is for anyone who is curious about the universe. Students will learn about the roles of matter and energy in the underlying structure of the universe and how clouds of gases and dust give rise to stars, planets and solar systems. They will also explore the sun’s power and its life cycle. Additional topics include the Big Bang theory, gravity, exoplanets, galaxies, black holes, supernovae,
dark matter and energy. The class will conclude with current theories about the multiverse and the “Theory of Everything.”
Instructor: Awanish Mishra holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in quantum physics, along with a master’s degree in theoretical chemistry.
Class requirements: Tablet or computer with internet capability. Must be age 14 or older; students under 18 must take this class with an adult who has also registered.
Cost: $69
Dates and times: Jan. 21 and 28
(two Thursdays), 6-8 p.m.
SCIENCE (568*)
This class provides a comprehensive overview of environmental science. Students will learn an “earth systems” approach to understanding human society and the environment as an integrated system. The course will
also explore environmental issues and investigate realistic solutions, while providing greater understanding of environmental factors that affect our world and the environmental impacts of past and current events.
Instructor: Veronica Galang has been an educator for more than 20 years, teaching astronomy, biology, chemistry, nanotechnology and physics. She has a master’s degree in physics and enjoys helping students apply critical and analytical thinking to understand the relationships between diverse concepts.
Class requirements: Tablet or computer with internet capability. Must be age 14 or older; students under 18 must take the class with an adult who has also registered.
