Approval of Minutes
January 28, 2025
- Suyash motioned to approve, Caitlin seconded, no objection, motion passed.
Public Comments
- Suyash: happy birthday to Ryan!
- Ben: Flea market is this Saturday, please come!
- Gavin Rust: I am here on behalf of La Voz. La Voz has won the most awards of any publication at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges for 3 years in a row. We set the standard for journalism in the entire state. And in order to continue qualifying for our General Excellence Award, we now need to print our paper at least 8 times a week. We do not exist on institutional funds alone. In 1991 through 1994, La Voz went under, because your predecessors tried that experiment by cutting our funding. We can't let that happen again. I would also like to remind everyone that our newspaper was there to report on the Elevate scandal. We were there to serve as watchdogs and make sure that those of you in your positions today were rightfully elected in a fair election. Without our journalism, DASG would look much different. I mentioned that example because democracy requires accountability. Let's do the right thing, and fund the legacy that is La Voz.
Advisor Announcements
- Dennis: Student elections are coming up, keep an eye out for more information. Campaigning begins Monday 2/23 at 6am, the Presidential Debate and Candidate Introductions is on 2/23 at 11:30am. Voting period is from 2/25 to 3/4. You can find the full election timeline and schedule at: https://www.deanza.edu/dasg/elections/
- Maritza: Please follow along the election process and training. We will give senators more information on what you are expected in terms of your role with training in the coming weeks. Some of you will be invited to be a part of a panel for training. Now would be a great time to build your transition documents, debrief on major projects, etc.
Senate Announcements
- Min: Is the minutes to January 21st minutes out yet?
- Dennis: That meeting was during the transition period, we will work on getting that out as soon as possible.
Student Trustee Announcements
- Elora: De Anza College will notify all students, faculty, staff, and the campus community when the presence of immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus. Once immigration enforcement is confirmed to be off campus, a subsequent communication will also be sent. Posters have been placed around the college to help ensure that students and employees know what to do in the unlikely event that immigration agents come to the De Anza campus. For more information, you can visit https://deanza.edu/students/undocumented.

Funding Request for Past Mentors@De Anza Reimbursement
- Maritza: We had a student from the 2024 academic year who had made large purchases in primarily food and supplies to support Mentors @ De Anza operations, which were submitted in June before the deadline. They were not received by student accounts due to an email issue. Funding was approved in the mentors budget, but because it wasn’t reimbursed, it went to special allocations. We have worked with student accounts to ensure that this issue doesn’t happen again. We are kindly asking DASG to re-approve the funding so we can reimburse this student.
- Salvadore moves to approve $1,427 in funding, $664 for Supplies (4010) and $763 for Food (4015), to reimburse a student for 2023-2024 Mentors@De Anza expenses. Seconded by Kyle, no objections, motion passed.

Business Item 5
2026-2027 DASG Budget – Fund 46 (DASG Student Representation Fund)
- Alan presented the budget guiding principles and the budget rubric
- Q: what is the food budget and who does it go to?
- A: the food purchased using DASG funds needs to be open and accessible to the whole student body.
- Q: What’s the rule with the DASG logo?
- All promotional materials and capital items for all programs funded by the DASG must print “Sponsored by De Anza Student Government (DASG)” or “Funded by De Anza Student Government (DASG)” or use the DASG logo either in place of the text “De Anza Student Government (DASG)” or the DASG logo by itself on them. The logo can be found online at https://www.deanza.edu/dasg/dasg-logo.html.
- A: Funding allocated to promotional materials must be clear that it’s for promotional purposes, with the De Anza logo or DASG logo.
- Q: Can any program on campus come and ask for money, or is it only programs with existing accounts?
- A: Any program. New programs will receive a new account number.
- Q: How is the budget number decided? Is it arbitrary
- A: we are limited by the amount that we are able to allocate. All other decisions are referred to with the guiding principles and evaluated
- Q: For the SSCCC account, can fund 41 be used?
- A: It could, but none are currently allocated from fund 41 for SSCCC general assembly.
- Q: Is fund 46 only for conferences within California, or outside of the state as well?
- A: It can be used for any conferences, although in the past, we’ve done mostly SSCCC conferences such as CCCSAA and GA.
- Q: Why was Public Policy School given an increase in budget?
- A: Due to payroll increase from last year to this year.
- Q: What is hourly benefits?
- A: The hourly benefits comes with any line that has payroll. It is required.
Jayven entertains motion to move the introduction of responsibilities and executive candidates before Business Item 6.
Salvadore moves to move the introduction of responsibilities and executive candidates before Business Item 6. Seconded by Blen, no objections, motion passed.
Salvadore moves to have a 5 minute recess at 6:08, Seconded by James. No objections, motion passed.
Meeting called back at 6:17pm.
Business Item 6
2026-2027 DASG Budget – Fund 41 (DASG General Fund)
- Q: Would the DASG, ICC, and Mentors@De Anza Student Leader Scholarship take into account program liaisons?
- A: Yes, it would.
- Q: Does the green buget from 2025-2026 include the special allocation if requested?
- A: No, it doesn’t.
- Q: Why was there nothing allocated to DASG events this year?
- A: We are moving away from the 41-51164 committee operations account which covers all committees to separating committee accounts since it’s been confusing in the past. Going forward, all DASG committees will have separate accounts.
- Q: SSCCC has discussed raising the student representation funding from $2 to $6. Would that impact either fund 41 or 46?
- A: All decisions regarding student representation funding would impact only Fund 46. That decision has not been made yet, so we will not account that difference until it is passed by the state.
