This conference is the culmination of the Partners in Learning Institute's 2023-24 Advocacy Series, a year-long series of student-focused panels and discussions designed to help us better meet the needs of our students.

Building on this series, the 2024 conference will foreground student stories and voices by focusing on questions raised by students and by empowering students as the conference discussion facilitators. As we all face a rapidly changing landscape in higher education, this conference offers an opportunity to discuss and develop applied practices to better serve our students. We hope you will join us in this work of community building!

Attendance is open to classified professionals, faculty members and administrators. Classified professionals and full-time faculty participants can earn PGA credit for their attendance. Part-time faculty members can earn PGA or extra pay for their attendance.

This conference is hosted by the Title III SIP Grant, Guided Pathways, the Equity and Engagement Division, the Online Education and Learning Resources Division, and the Office of Professional Development.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

8:30-9 AM: Connect over light breakfast.

9-10:30 AM: Morning Plenary: Welcome, Student Panel, and Discussion Activity.

10:30-11:30 AM: Session 1: Knowledges that Support Success.

What technological knowledge and financial literacy do students need to be successful? How can we help them gain this knowledge?

11:30 AM-12:30 PM: Session 2: Spreading the Values of Learning Communities.

How do we bring the values of learning communities—belonging, support, mentoring—into the work that we all do? What kinds of communities of support can we help our students build?

12:30-1 PM: Lunch

1-2 PM: Session 3: Transformative Practice in a Changing Landscape.

This session will include separate discussion tracks for classified professionals and faculty:

What has changed in higher education and in our students’ lives? How can we respond thoughtfully to these changes?

2-3 PM: Session 4: Humanization of Our Work.

This session will include separate discussion tracks for classified professionals and faculty:

Classified professionals discussion: How can we humanize department and division information to make it accessible to all?

Faculty discussion: How do we practice the humanization of the educational process and ensure that each student is seen and understood individually?

3-3:30 PM: Closing Plenary Discussion and Activity.
