About Me

Jayanti Tambe Roy is a faculty member in the Child Development and Education and Sociology departments at De Anza College. She is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Transformative Social Change at Saybrook University and holds a master’s degree in Human Development, along with a Director-Level California Child Development Permit. She also earned an Executive Certificate in Social Impact from the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn).

With over 15 years of experience teaching adults and nearly 40 years in the field of education, Jayanti brings a wealth of expertise in educational leadership and curriculum development. She has held executive director roles at UCLA’s Early Learning Program, Pacific Oaks Children’s School, and Rainbow School at Stanford University.

Her research and passion focus on gender issues, social impact, and transformative social change. As a professor of early childhood education, she has authored two books that offer creative strategies for engaging young learners, providing valuable guidance to both parents and educators. Jayanti has also contributed significantly to community outreach and research, notably as director of CORE (Community Outreach and Research) at Pacific Oaks College and child family resource coordinator at Stanford University. In these roles, she fostered partnerships to support faculty, students, staff, and the broader community.

In her sociological research, Jayanti explores the intersectionality of gender and society, examining the roles of women and men through interviews, case studies and ethnographies. She was instrumental in creating the Trauma Specialization in Early Childhood at Pacific Oaks College. Her experience spans Title 22 and Title 5 programs, and she has demonstrated an ability to adapt her teaching to different cultural contexts and learning styles, both nationally and internationally.

Jayanti has taught early childhood education at De Anza College and Santa Monica College at the undergraduate level, as well as at the bachelor’s and master’s levels at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena. She is multilingual, and sees this as a significant asset when working with diverse families. She is deeply committed to family engagement practices in early childhood education (ECE), and her leadership at Rainbow School earned national recognition at the 2010 NAEYC Institute for exemplary diversity engagement. That same year, she was awarded the Rose Engel Award (CAEYC) for innovative teaching practices.

Jayanti has been widely recognized for her contributions to the field through appointments by various national associations, institutes, and universities, highlighting her innovative approaches to education.
