Meeting Notes
1. Assessment for Math Course Placement Updates (Precalculus Course Sequence, MATH 1A)
- Effective July 1, 2025, under AB 1705, all students should be able to access MATH1A.
- Assessment worked with Counseling and the Office of Communications to update student facing materials to reflect these changes.
- The Assessment Department will still provide math course placement information in
MyPortal > Student Registration > View Course Placement. STEM placement messaging
will state that all students are eligible for MATH1A
- Those students eligible for a U.S. high school transcript assessment may also get a recommendation for MATH32 or MATH31; as well as information about support options (MPS, coreqs, etc.).
- Those students who are not eligible for a U.S. high school transcript assessment result will still be required to complete the online Math guided self-placement (GSP) assessment so that they can receive a STEM math placement recommendation, and a MATH10 placement (with or without support required).
- Math 1A support includes MPS sections and a new co-requisite, MATH 201A.
- The Math Department confirmed that 4 sections of MATH 201A would be offered in the fall quarter.
- The Student Success Center is interested in partnering with the Math faculty to support students who may need help with Math 1A. Interested faculty can reach out to Melissa Aguilar.
2. Department Updates, as needed
- The ESL and English Departments didn't have any updates at this time; but continue to follow AB1705 conversations.
- The English Performance Success (EPS) program shared that they would go down to two counselors in the fall.
- The college continues to work on Common Course Numbering (CCN) changes.
- Magali Magallon is our new acting enrollment services & assessment supervisor. Welcome Magali!
