    1:55 p.m. 4) Technology Plan Extension

    Sabit discussed the institutional planning timeline for De Anza College, explaining that the current technology plan needs a one-year extension through 2026-2027, as it follows the Education Master Plan, which is set to be updated next year. Discussed need to update a survey that was last conducted in 2020, considering changes due to remote work and new technologies like AI. Coordinate survey with institutional research.

    Actions:  Update the technology plan document to reflect new date range (2021-2027). Move 2017-2021 section to appendix for historical context. Update membership. Update president's message. Update & maintain running document tracking progress on technology plan goals, incorporating new achievements since the last update. Focus on one goal per meeting, with members preparing progress reports on their areas related to each goal. All committee members to review Goal 1 of the technology plan prior to the February meeting and come prepared to discuss progress and updates related to that goal.

    The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and Google collaborated to provide over 2 million students, faculty, and classified professionals across California's 116 community colleges free access to AI training, Google Career Certificates, and some of Google's  AI tools including Gemini for Education and NotebookLM. Board of Governors have established goal to make a variety of AI tools available to all California Community College students, in effort to prepare them for an AI-powered workforce. No costs associated with access to the AI tools (Gemini and NotebookLM), AI certificates, and/or training provided via the MOU between the State of California, the CCC system, and Google. New Google Digital Center training resources available for employees only but may be extended to students. Chancellor's office offers webinars for AI. AI is great at describing graphs and diagrams, helping visually impaired and learning disabilities students.

    Action: Invite AI faculty fellow to a future meeting to present on AI community of practice plans & progress.
      Mitchler to send out info onNectar AI pilot program extension for instructors interested in participating. 
      Accessibility Armstrong Benefits of AI for creating accessible content. Degreeworks is not accessible.
      Banner Student Mitchler Students are having issues with access in certain browsers.
      ETS Metcalf WiFi issues and hardware failures, which caused operating in a degraded mode, have now been fixed. The library hardware issue is also resolved. Substantial improvement in WiFi performance. WiFi booster help accommodate evolving needs, issues, and data speeds. The WiFi expansion projects are facing licensing issues with vendors. Estimated to be resolved by late January. 
      Online Education  Nocito New Canvas training launched; RSI will require additional hours. Faculty teaching online synchronously must complete training. Single sign-on for Canvas expected to roll out in January. Efforts ongoing to develop proctoring software modalities for the curriculum, in collaboration with the new AI faculty member. Instructional designers are working with OER on accessibility checks. Main issue is content uploaded as PDFs or images is not accessible. Armstrong can help with making these items accessible. Switch Canvas authentication method to the new vendor solution in January after finals, as coordinated with ETS and vendor. Merge AI task force work with the new AI faculty fellow's efforts as appropriate. Degreeworks is inadequate due to accessibility issues.
