Reminder: Register Now for Fall Quarter!
Dear Student,
We noticed you applied for fall quarter but still haven't registered for classes. There's still time – and lots of great classes available on campus and online. Check out the fall schedule and register now through MyPortal.
You'll find helpful tips in this email, plus important registration information.
Check the Class Listings
You can use the online searchable schedule now to view course descriptions, meeting times, prerequisites and other important information.
Be sure to click the title of each course you're considering (or click the CRN if you're using the older "classic" registration system in MyPortal), to read the footnotes for details on how the class will be taught. This will give you important information including
- Whether the class will be taught on campus or online – or as a hybrid class that includes both on-campus and online instruction
- Whether online classes will have regularly scheduled meeting times, some scheduled meetings, or no scheduled meetings, with students completing weekly assignments on their own time within set deadlines.
Welcome Day is Friday, Sept. 19
Be sure to RSVP for Welcome Day – which will be held on campus from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Sept. 19. This event is a great opportunity to meet your instructors and learn about programs and services available to you.
Attending Welcome Day is also a good way to discover your Village. De Anza's six Villages are supportive communities of students, faculty and staff members who share academic interests. Each Village offers resources and activities related to your major or goals.

New Registration Interface
If you've taken classes at De Anza or Foothill College in the past, you may notice a new look and some different features in our registration interface this fall.
Don't worry if it seems unfamiliar: You'll find a step-by-step user guide with illustrations at deanza.edu/reg-guide. You can also watch a helpful video!
New Course Numbers for Some Classes
We’ve changed the course numbers and prefixes for certain classes in the fall schedule – including English Composition, Introductory Statistics and a few others that you may need to take for your certificate, degree, general
education or transfer requirements. You can see a complete list of these at deanza.edu/register/course-numbers.
The changes are prompted by a state law that requires colleges across California to use the same titles and numbers for comparable courses, which should make it a little easier for students who are planning to transfer within the UC, CSU and community college systems.
Not Sure What Classes To Take?
We’ve put together some optional course combos for new students this fall. These are sets of classes that are relevant to your major and your Village – AND offered in convenient blocks of time. You'll find these listed at deanza.edu/combo.
Course combos are totally optional: You can register for any class that works for your educational plan. But you may find that your combo is a good way to get started in your first quarter.
Many of the suggested classes will be taught in hybrid format, with some scheduled meetings on campus, and some work that you can do online. It’s the best of both worlds: You’ll have personal contact with instructors and classmates, plus the convenience of working at your own pace online, within deadlines set by the instructor.

Bookstore Open – On Campus and Online
You can purchase all your books and materials through the Bookstore's online store at deanzastore.com.
Update for Transfer Students
If you’re a new student who declared an associate degree for transfer (ADT) as your goal, you’ll find a helpful education plan already loaded in your Degree Works account. Check it out and contact your counselor with any questions. (You can find your educational goal by clicking on the Student Registration card in MyPortal, where you can also update it as needed.)
