A Win-Win for Students and Employers
The Learning Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) helps underrepresented students find paid internships and jobs in fields related to their major or career goals. When possible, the program tries to connect students with employers who can offer full-time positions after graduation.
LAEP is a win-win for both students and employers: In addition to providing access to a diverse pool of motivated workers, LAEP covers a substantial part of the cost to employ each student – 50% for companies and 90% for nonprofits.
De Anza's LAEP program is co-sponsored by the Career Training Division andthe Occupational Training Institute (OTI).

Students must meet these conditions to participate in the program:

To qualify for a job or internship through LAEP, you must meet all of these conditions:
- California residency
- Enrolled in at least six units at De Anza
- Satisfactory academic progress in a program leading to a degree or certificate, with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
- Eligible for a Pell Grant as demonstrated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or CADAA (CA Dream Act Application)
- Eligible to work in the United States

In addition to the above conditions, at least one of the following conditions must apply to you:
- First-generation college student
- Student from a low-income household
- Current or former foster youth
- Homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
- Student with disabilities
- Displaced worker
- Student with dependent children
- Formerly incarcerated student
- Undocumented student or student who meets the requirements of AB 540 – must have California Dream Act Application affidavit and DACA employment authorization card
- Military veteran
If you enter the LAEP program under one of these conditions and your situation changes, you may be able to remain in the program if the college determines that you meet another condition on the list.
