Save on Required Course Materials
A Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) class has no required textbook cost. A Low Textbook Cost class keeps required course materials at $50 or less. Use the steps below each quarter to find Zero and Low Textbook Cost sections and confirm their materials before you register.

ZTC: All required course materials are available at no cost to students.
LTC: Required course materials cost $50 or less.
Find and Enroll in a ZTC Class
Start with Your Program
Review your education plan or start with a complete ZTC pathway. If you are unsure which classes you need, connect with a counselor.
Search the Schedule
Open the De Anza Class Schedule, choose the correct term and search for your course.
Look for the ZTC or LTC Icon
Find courses with the $0 Zero Textbook Cost icon or the $L Low Textbook Cost icon.
You can find these courses either by looking for the icon under the "Class Info" column or by using the "Filters".

From this view, simply select the "Zero Textbook Cost" and/or "Low Textbook Cost" option. This will filter the results to only display courses with the selected filters.
Important Information
Schedule filters and labels can change by term. Always open the current class details and confirm the materials for the exact section before enrolling.
Open the class details and confirm the required materials for that specific section.
Save the CRN
Write down the five-digit Course Reference Number (CRN) for the section you want.
Register in MyPortal
Sign in to MyPortal, open the Registration Dashboard and use the CRN to add the class. See the registration guide or adding and dropping classes for more help.
Plan a Complete Pathway
A ZTC pathway is a degree or certificate that students can complete without paying for required textbooks when they choose the designated sections.
Because course offerings vary, use your education plan and the current schedule together. A counselor can help you keep degree, transfer and ZTC course choices aligned.
