    Public Comment

    • Gaby welcomed Jenny Vela back as as the admin assistant for online ed and learning resources.

    Quick Notes

    • Welcome new members!
      • Shri has returned after being on PDL for Spring 25. Rachel was unable to attend today, but will hopefully be at the next meeting
    • J1 Workgroup Update
      • The first meeting took place with members from De Anza and Foothill. A lot of differing perspectives, but with several more meetings to take place, we'll have a more concrete update at the next COOL meeting
    • Google AI now in MyPortal
      • Access for faculty and staff to use Google AI tools is available through MyPortal. It opens a chrome browser for you. Training is available through Google, and AI Fellow Chesa is working on organizing some in house trainings.
    • Rumi AI free trial
      • Rumi has a free trial for faculty to use. Rumi helps with transparancy regarding AI use in courses. Not sure what features are available in the trial, so anyone teaching can try it out if you'd like.

    Agentic AI Update

    • Agentic AI update regarding the recommendation sent to Senate, the letter to the Vice Chancellor, and the response.
    • Our recommendation for senate to join Foothill in the letter was met with mixed reception. Supporters wanted to set guard rails and cautioned over the increase in AI technology. Those against were unsure of the usefulness, technical possibilities, and limiting training. It ended up passing in senate by one vote.
    • De Anza was added to the letter with both COOL and De Anza Senate named. Foothill Senate President sent the letter to the Vice Chancellor once the lettter was finalized
    • The Vice Chancellor responded to the letter with a detailed breakdown of what the district is working on and the steps being taken to address faculty concerns.
    • Townhalls are being held for De Anza and Foothill faculty to better understand concerns and continue this as a collaborative process.

    Harmonize Paid Pilot

    • In order to continue the pilot, the committee must make a decision to recommend whether or not to pay for coninued use of harmonize.
      • Survey results were neutral to positive, with it being clear that more time is needed to train faculty and for faculty to experiment with the tool.
      • Cheryl identified a new strategy for taking 5 faculty and working with them for the next 2 quarters to get more in depth feedback.
      • Since harmonize is paid by user, this could range to anywhere from 500 to 1000 users over the next two quarters.
      • 1000 was recommended to be safe and ensure that the pilot could continue without running out of space for faculty or student users.
      • The committe recommends that the pilot contues with 1000 users paid for at 5.50 a user for a total of $5500.
        • 5 Yes 0 No 0 Abstain

    Online Teaching Certification MOU Update

    • Due to time, please review the MOU on the Faculty Association website. This was signed by FA and the District in December.
    • Online Ed is aware and has updated the RSI course to become the new OTL Certification course
    • They are in the process of updating the Canvas Cert course, and are currently brainstorming recertification ideas.

    No Good of the Order

    Meeting adjourns at 12:01
